5'6" Mini Simmons - Foamy

7 reviews

The Paragon Mini Simmons is all about speed and flow. The front third of the board is very flat (speed), while the rest of the board transitions from a single to double concave with vee out the tail (loose). This board excels in small conditions and it will guarantee to increase your wave count.

Unlike other soft tops on the market, this board is constructed from a hand-shaped epoxy core and has a high-density wood stringer.  The rails and bottom contours are also hand-shaped, and the board is finished with Hexcel cloth and epoxy resin.  The top deck/rails are wrapped and vacuum-sealed with a texturized EVA foam.

As a result, this board has the cushy feel of a foamy coupled with the performance/durability of a high-performance surfboard. Gone are the days of waxing up your board or having to worry about rail dings.

      Add it to your quiver

The board is well-packed for shipping and arrived in perfect condition. Paragon definitely has the process of putting foam over a glassed board perfected. The rails feel great where the foam meets the glassed bottom. I needed some wax, but I also was using the board in 44 degree water... The board paddles similar to a fish and catches a wave with similar ease to a fish. This board is loose beyond imagination while still being able to generate ridiculous speed. The turning radius is far smaller than a fish, and it definitely make you think about how you plan and follow through with your turns. For those of you who are good surfers, but not great, this board kinda holds up the mirror to some of the bad habits that you may have fallen into and lets you slow down a little and rethink your approach to the basics. It’s a lot of fun, and it’s definitely not just for those rippers who want a progressive board on small mushy waves. It’s also a great board for someone who wants to work on their surfing skills. Paragon has made a mini that is truly affordable, and I can’t imagine this thing ever wearing out. It is built, and then some. Thanks Paragon, this is a great board and it has motivated me to keep improving my surfing.

      Love this little ripper board

I’ve been curious about these mini simmons style surfboards. They look very odd and it’s essentially the middle portion of a longboard surfboard with the nose and tail cut off. . I’m too young to longboard and I still want to shortboard. I did a lot of research and Paragon Surfboards have the best prices so I decided to roll the dice. WOW, this board is super fun and fast! I rode it in knee to waist high surf and the thing just flies across the mushiest sections. I’m super stoked.

      Surfrider

It is a great board and I am stoked. The fins that came with it did not work for me in 3 foot waves so I bought a larger twin fins. The fin box is future fin so that helps as I have other surfboard with future fins. The board paddles well and catches waves easily. The bottom is single concave to double I believe and that generate a lot of speed. I would say this board is actually for someone who is intermediate to advance surfers. The board is ok for beginners too if you are just surfing the white water. It is very loose since it only has 2 fins.

      Just buy the board

Don't overthink it. For the price, you're setting yourself up for having a maximum "have fun" board in your quiver. Just bought one from a local seller this weekend and had it out in mushy high tide 2-3' surf, and was able to catch everything. Can't wait to have this with me all summer. The Mini Simmons paddles like a long board, but turns on a dime! Not to mention, calling this a "foamie" in its true sense really under-sells the quality construction of the board. UPDATE: Fin box became dislodged in the bottom. Could be a mix of how/when it was being ridden, but that's the first time I've ever broken a futures fin box on a fiberglass bottom.

      High quality soft top

Really well made, great shape, so fun to ride. A little heavier than expected, but not your typical soft top. Very impressed.
